Hyundai has officially opened its $7.6 billion electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in Georgia and announced plans to increase annual production capacity by 66% reaching 500,000 vehicles.
The factory began EV production just six months ago, employing over 1,200 workers. Hyundai’s decision to expand coincides with President Donald Trump’s anticipated tariffs on auto imports. Hyundai’s U.S.manufactured vehicles will be exempt from these tariffs, reflecting strategic alignment with domestic policies. Currently, the plant produces the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 electric SUVs, using advanced robotics for assembly operations. Hyundai also revealed intentions for a $21 billion investment across the U.S. over the next three years, including a $5.8 billion steel mill in Louisiana to supply materials for its American facilities.
The Georgia facility represents Hyundai’s commitment to becoming a key player in the U.S. EV market, where electric vehicles accounted for 8.1% of new vehicle sales in 2024. This milestone reinforces the company’s vision for sustainable mobility and global competitiveness.
