Renault declared on Friday that it will cease certain functions of its electric mobility services branch, Mobilize, including car sharing services, due to insufficient profitability. This choice will lead to the incorporation of the brand’s charging technologies into the group’s commercial activities.
In a public announcement, the automaker revealed its intention to exit the “Duo” electric quadricycle initiative along with the “Zity” car-sharing platform, both situated in Milan, and it will also slowly eliminate the “Zity” service in Madrid beginning next year.
Renault identified limited financial returns and diminished synergies with its primary business as the rationale for this decision.
The Mobilize brand, established in 2021 to help the company broaden its scope, will cease to exist in that form, with the exception of the long-term rental sector known as Mobilize Financial Services. Nevertheless, Renault mentioned it may explore its commercial applicability for other services in the upcoming months. Concurrently, the company intends to advance its electrification plans by directly incorporating the charging solutions (for home and travel) that were previously developed under the Mobilize brand, asserting that it regards energy endeavors as a “priority.” Operations associated with electric charging will now be aligned directly with commercial activities, managed by Fabrice Cambolive, the Chief Growth Officer.
