U.S. Court Limits Google’s Monopoly

A U.S. federal court has ruled that Google (XNAS-GOOGL) must take steps to reduce its dominance in the search engine market. The company is now required to share search data with competitors and is barred from making exclusive deals with phone manufacturers that restrict browser choice.

However, the court rejected the Justice Department’s demand for Google to sell its Chrome browser or Android operating system. The ruling follows a 2023 decision that found Google had illegally maintained a monopoly.

While the case has officially concluded after five years, Google plans to appeal—potentially delaying the enforcement of these measures for years to come.
